Sylvie Vartan is a French pop-star born in Iskretz, Bulgaria on August 15, 1944. Her origins are American-Hungarian and her family lives in Sofia for a while but in 1952 they move to Paris. Sylvie is a legendary figure on the pop scene, one of the innovative people who changed the music industry. She was from the first singers to start dancing and singing at the same time. Her first husband is Johnny Holiday with whom she is known as the Golden Couple. After she divorced him in 1980, she married the American producer Tony Scott and together with him they adopt a girl from Bulgaria - Darina.
Her first impressions of the stage are from when she was a little girl. She had to play a small part in the movie "Under the Yoke" describing the war between Turkey and Bulgaria. Sylvie says that his was the moment she realized she wanted to be an entertainer. Her first public appearance was when she was 17 at the Olympia, Paris, on December 12, 1961. Her first album made her a star and gave her extreme popularity. 6 out her 29 songs made it to the top 20 chart. In 1963 after she announced her engagement with "The French Elvis", Johnny Holiday, they were on the cover of every magazine and on the first page of every newspaper. Her style ye-ye was extremely attractive to the people, a cute girl with energetic presence, Sylvie Vartan became the rock and roll lady of France. 1964 was a very busy year for he, she appeared in numerous TV shows, she was the warm up singer for the Beatles at Olympia and had 13 concerts in 12 days in Japan. Until the mid 80s, Sylvie Vartan was one of the most popular and pop-stars giving concerts all over the world, influencing the music industry by mixing many different styles in her songs. She gave concerts in front of the Royal Family in England, and the Emperor's family in Japan. Sylvie Vartan made songs with John Denver and many other fellow pop-stars.
In October, 1990, she returns to Sofia and has a concert, the most moving event in her career. The concert was in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia and Sylvie Vartan sang the national anthem of Bulgaria.
