Panichishte is located on the border of Rila National Park, 1350 m above sea level. The closest town to the resort is Sapareva Banya. The distance to Dupnitsa is 25 km, the capital Sofia is 85 km away. The resort offers excellent conditions for both winter and summer tourism.
Panichishte has several ski tracks: Bekyara and Ajdena – both of them less than 500 m long; a cross-country track – 5000 m long and soon to be equipped with a shooting ground for biathlon; and kids track. There are also other ski runs that are situated next to the different chalets in the region. The tracks do not have lifts, but tow ropes instead. Panichishte is one of the cheapest resorts in Bulgaria.
There is a new Visitors Centre in Panichishte, the first of its kind for Bulgaria. It was built on European model, under the PHARE program of the European Union and the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment and Waters of Bulgaria. The Visitors Centre was built in Panichishte because the resort is the starting point to major tourist destinations in the region: Maliovitsa ski resort, Skakavitsa, Borovets – the biggest ski resort in Bulgaria, the Seven Rila Lakes, and the biggest historical sanctuary in Bulgaria – Rila Monastery. The main function of the centre, as a starting point to Rila National Park, is to acquaint the tourists with all the information they need: about the habitat and the environment, the ski resorts and the cultural monuments.
The biggest advantages of Panichishte are the cheap prices, the proximity to Sofia and to Rila National Park.
