Nova TV was established in 1994 and began broadcasting as a TV channel covering Sofia and the region. On July 18 2003, Nova received a national air broadcasting license and became the second private national television media in Bulgaria. In October 2008, it became member of Swedish media group MTG.
Nova TV's programme scheme features high-rating author's shows, hit series and programmes aimed to suit the interest of a wide spectrum of viewers - news, political shows, sports, culture, family and children's shows. Nova TV is a pioneer in the production of high-budget formats in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" - "Who Wants to Be Rich" - is the most successful game in the Bulgarian TV air, while Big Brother is the first locally-produced reality show. The media was also first in shooting Bulgarian TV series with its productions "Hotel Bulgaria" and "Forbidden Love." Unique formats such as "The Island of Temptations", "Extreme Makeover", "Fear", as well as some of the Hollywood movie and TV series block-busters are part of Nova TV's varied portfolio as well.
Nova TV's high-quality news and political shows have become its trademark. The non-biasness and impressive journalistic presence, the combination of traditions and modern technologies, the adequate balance in covering home and international news, official events and human stories, analysis, investigative reporting, as well as free expression of various opinions and pubic access to the TV air, are among the distinctive characteristics of Nova's news and political shows.
Nova TV is also popular for its social commitment and its support for various projects of public importance. The game "Who Wants to Be Rich" alone has been able to collect more than 1,000,000 leva (500,000 euros) to support various charity causes. The first charity season of the VIP Brother reality show, as well as the series of concerts "For the Children of Bulgaria" and the charity episodes of "Who Wants to Be Rich", collected a total of 2,516,125 leva (1,250,000 euros) in three months only. |
