"SLUNTSE" is a fortunate publishing House. For years a colleague of mine from a rival publishing house used to tell me those words when we met. I accepted them as a pure sign of good will without paying much attention. But as it often happens, one day the familiar phrase made me think about it.

I do not want to tempt fate but I think there is truth in those words. My father's dream came true when he founded the publishing house in 1937. In 1948 the Communist regime in Bulgaria banned private property. Like thousands of other companies SLUNTSE Publishers ceased publications. After the fall of the Communist regime I restored the publishing house from which only the name was left. Fortunate was the start of SLUNTSE with its first book - The Children's Bible - which has reached a total print run of 500 000 copies by now. And another thing, known by everyone in the publishing business - SLUNTSE has a wonderful smoothly working team and a wide circle of faithful collaborators and friends.

We too, like all Bulgarian publishers, switched from "realization" to "survival" mode. But we accept that as one of the many challenges we face. The most important thing is that the pleasure from the work with books and people remains. Or like Oprah Winfrey says: "Never do something just for the money".
