Description |
Sopot Park is situated in the fertile sub-Balkan mountain valley of Karlovo, immediately below the steep southern slopes of the Troyan Balkan Mountain (Central Stara Planina), stretching all the way into the town of Dabene in the western part of the famous Rose Valley.
Sopot is the home of the Shambhala Centre, the best Bulgarian paragliding and hanggliding cross-country flying site. It is also the centre for other extreme sports such as mountain biking and motor biking, with several world cups and championships held there. This has led to a large influx of foreigners in recent years.
Sopot is also the home of Bulgaria's largest weapons and munitions factory, the BMZ, employing several thousand workers and is currently in the process of expanding.
Sopot Park has obvious development potential as it is based just south of the factory in anticipation of this expansion.
Sopot Park lies 5 km west of Karlovo , 136 km east of Sofia, 63 km north of Plovdiv and 61 km south of Troyan.
