Bulgarian Gmail users can make low-cost calls from within the popular e-mail service to a traditional landline or mobile phone number as of August 4.
A year after Google enabled calling mobiles and landlines directly from within Gmail for US and Canadian users, the company expanded this feature overnight to Bulgaria and internationally.
With support for 38 languages, the international expansion of Google Voice's call-out functionality is expected to prove a resilient competitor to Skype and of course traditional telcos.
Calls within Bulgaria are charged at BGN 0.09 per minute to landlines and BGN 0.54 per minute to mobiles.
In order to use the service, Gmail users are required to install a Google voice and video chat plug-in. Credit can be purchased in US dollars, British pounds, Euros or Canadian dollars.
