Main boulevards in the Bulgarian capital will undergo active repair works, the Sofia Deputy Mayor for Transport, Lyubomir Hristov, said Friday.

In his words, by the end of April, pavement renewal has to be competed on the Alexander Malinov Blvd, Tsarigradsko Shose, Bulgaria Blvd and Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.

The Sofia Municipality has provided BGN 27 M for ongoing repairs of streets and boulevards.

"Ten days ago we launched the program for implementation of the ongoing repair works of Sofia streets. We started slowly because of the rainfalls," Hristov said.

He stated that 15 groups of people are already working in all Sofia districts. He pointed out that small neighborhood streets in Sofia will also undergo renovations.

The replacement of damaged pavement on the downtown Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd will begin on Saturday and will continue for nine days.

Repairs of damaged sections of Bulgaria Blvd and Tsarigradsko Shose are scheduled to begin next week.

This week, Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova said that the municipality will tighten the control on the quality of the repair works. In her words, 40% of the falls of lanes are a result of bad quality repairs.

She explained that the Sofia Municipality is preparing a new contract for guarantees of the quality, which will be signed with all of the companies that are engaged in reconstructions of Sofia streets and boulevards.

Companies will be required to provide documents from laboratory tests, proving that the quality of the different layers of the road have a high quality.
