A total of 243 107 passengers have been registered at the Bulgarian Sofia Airport in February 2011, which is a 10 000 increase year on year.
This increase was due both to constant growth in passenger flow on international scheduled routes and a 25% increase to the number of passengers on domestic routes, the airport's official website states.
The number of flight movements at Bulgaria's largest airport in February was 3,467, a 2% increase in comparison to the same period in 2010.
The winter charter program registered a slightly lower interest on behalf of foreign tourists. A total of 1 500 fewer passengers were carried on charter flights to/from Sofia Airport compared with February 2010.
The volume of cargo and mail handled in February 2011 decreased by 2.2% year on year. A 4% drop to freighter carried cargo was reported against a 5.3% increase of cargo carried on scheduled flights
