In the first six months of 2012, Sofia Airport processed a total of 1 694 728 passengers, up by 0.7% from the same period of 2011.
According to a media statement of Sofia Airport, the number of passengers travelling to international destinations increased by 34 276 (2%) on the year.
Bulgarian national carrier Bulgaria Air registered an increase of 8% in passengers travelling to domestic destinations.
As regards international air carriers running regular flights, the biggest increases were reported by Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, NIKI и Air Malta.
A total of 83 439 passengers boarded regular flights from Sofia to the Black Sea cities of Varna and Burgas, down by 17%.
The number of organized tourists processed at Sofia Airport fell by 8% due to the smaller number of charter flights in the winter of 2012.
A total of 21 741 airplanes departed and landed at Sofia Airport, down by 6%.
The number of flights to international and domestic destinations decreased, while the business aviation segment reported an increase of 26% in the number of airplanes departed and landed in the first half of 2012.
The number of passengers using charter flights from Sofia Airport to Antalya, Bodrum, Heraklion, Zakynthos and Enfidha increased by 20% in the second quarter of 2012 from the same period of 2011.
