General Information - The Bourgas region is one of the most developed regions in the Republic of
Bulgaria. It is the second largest in area (next to the Sofia region) and the
fourth populated region of the country.

1. Tourism - The geographical location of the Bourgas region is favourable for the
development of sea recreative tourism. The main touristic season is the summer.
The air and water temperatures, the big number of sunny days and the low level

Places of Interest - The Black Sea on the one hand and the southern part of the region, which is

reserve. The biggest tourist complex is Sunny beach, and the modern holiday
villages are Elenite and Duni. The Bourgas region as a crossway of nations

archeological relics of Thracian times /the Pomorie Tomb/, of Roman and
Byzantine times /fortified walls, Roman baths/, historical monuments from the
first and second Bulgarian state, architectural and ethnographic places of

General Information - The town of Gabrovo is situated in Northern Bulgaria, along the River Yantra, in the north Sredna Stara Planina mountain spur, 392 m above sea-level. Gabrovo is 220 km north-east from the city of Sofia. In the immediate vicinity of Gabrovo is the geographical centre of Bulgaria. Because of its locality the town is a busy road junction. Kyustendil is a national balneological resort at an altitude of 500 m. The town has a population of 54 000. The ancient name of the town Pautalia (a town of springs) is Thracian. The fortress was built by the Romans. Therms, basilicas, floor mosaics have been uncovered. In the 11th C. the town, known as Velbuzhd, after the name of its heir, Konstantin Velbuzhd, became a major religious and administrative centre. About 1355 Velbuzhd and its region were included in the semi-independent feudal Velbuzhd principality of Despot Deyan.

General Information - The biggest city at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Varna is situated 470 km east of Sofia. In the course of more than 7 millennia, the Gulf of Varna has been the cradle of several significant civilizations - humankind's oldest gold was excavated in Varna, created by people who inhabited that place around the 4th millennium BC and long before the Thracians, Greeks, Bulgarians and Turks.
The third largest city, Varna, after Sofia and Plovdiv is Bulgaria's most animated metropolis and it rivals Sofia and Plovdiv in providing a wide range of sights and museums. The outstanding treasures of the Archeological Museum include the Chalcolithic necropolis with the oldest examples of gold jewelry ever discovered, and impressive Greek, Thracian and Bulgarian artifacts. Industries of interest - The economic profile of the Region includes: machine-building, shipbuilding, chemical industry, sea and air transport, tourism, food processing and wine industries. The industrial zones of Varna and Provadia are composed of over 100 enterprises, shipbuilding and repair, diesel engines, communications, sea-navigation, medical and household goods, textile and ready-made clothes, furniture and metallurgy. Food and wine industries produce over 50,000 tons per year. Fruits and vegetable conserves, sugar, salt, beer, soft drinks, fresh and processed meat and milk products are processed. Concentrated in Devnya and Beloslav are large scale chemical industries. The plants produce soda ash, cement, polyvinilchloride, fertilizers, detergents, washing and cleaning products, glass and sanitary glass, household chemical products. Port Varna is the second largest port (after Bourgas port) in Bulgaria. The ferryboat Varna - Ilichovsk is a direct bridge to Ukraine.
Agriculture: Prevailing in the region are grains and fodder cultures, vineyards and orchards. Main priorities are restoration of the vineyards (20 000 dka), creation of orchards (20 000 dka), rehabilitation of the irrigation systems, creation of small grain-depots, reconstruction of the stock-breeding farms, establishment of stock-exchanges and Agrobusiness centre.

General Information - The Vidin district is located in the northwestern part of
Bulgaria and covers a territory of 3,022 square kilometers, which is 2.7% of the
country’s total.
To the north it borders the Danube and is naturally
connected to Romania and the other Danubian countries. To the west its border
tallies with the Bulgarian - Serbian boundary. To the east it neighbors the
Montana district and to the south it is surrounded by the Balkan Mountains.
Industries of interest
1. Traditional industries - The Vidin district has a diversified economic structure. Well
developed are the sectors of light industry, agriculture, trade and services,
transport, processing industry, machine building and food and beverage industry.
The private firms registered in the Vidin district are over 10,000 as per 1999
data.
The strengths of the region which determine the prospects for
future development are as follows: - a share of processing industry and
trade in the gross value added higher than the country average; - a well
developed communications network - the region has leading positions with regard
to telephone coverage; - a well developed water-supply network; - a
relatively high share of foreign investments per citizen in the district (as
compared to other districts in the country).
2. Agriculture - Produce of main crops for the year 2000: Maize corn -
11,216 tons Wheat - 38,662 tons Sunflower grain - 5,554 tons Barley
- 12,959 tons Grapes - 8,000 tons The Vidin district specializes in growing: - cereal and fodder
crops; - vegetables; - fruit; - grapes.
Vine growing has century-old traditions in
the Vidin district. The climate conditions and the soil type in many
micro-regions are suitable for the cultivation of vines up to 600 meters above
sea level. The Vidin district is a traditional producer of red and white wines,
as well as of dessert grapes. Gamza, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Aligote,
Rkatsitely, Misket, Otonel, Bulgar, etc. are typical grape varieties grown in
the region.
Places of Interest - Cultural sites in the region

the Baba Vida Fortress, supposedly in existence since the 3rd – 4th centuries in
the northeastern part of the Roman Bononia Fortress; - the Magurata Cave
(Rabisha village), with some 700 rock drawings which form the biggest
proto-historical gallery on the Balkan peninsula; - the Kaleto - a system of
coastal fortifications along the Danube; - Ratziaria, which used to be a
Roman City, located 17 km to the south of the town of Vidin. It provides good
conditions for recreation and fishing; - the Krastata Kazarma, built in 1798
by Polish architects for the soldiers of Osman Pazvantoglou, an independent
local “pasha”; - Pazvantoglou’s mosque and library, built up in 1800; -
the Konaka Otoman Camp, an architectural monument in existence since the second
half of 18th century; - the Rocks of Belogradchick, unique rocky formations
situated near the town of Belogradchick, 52 kilometers southwest of Vidin.
The Vidin district is famous for its
folklore and modern arts festivals, attended by local and international artists
who exhibit their paintings, sculptures and woodcarving work.

Industries of interest
The main industrial sectors of Yambol region are the chemical industry, the textile industry, machine tool engineering and food and beverages production (canned vegetables and fruit). Arable and accounts for 62 percent of the region's total area and 19 percent of it requires irrigation. The main agricultural products are cereals and oil-bearing plants, vegetables, viticulture, fruit. Stockbreeding covers all animal types.
