Uzana winter ski resort is situated in central-north Bulgaria, 22 km from Gabrovo. The resort is 1240 m above sea level and is the only winter ski resort in central Stara Planina. Located at the foot of Ispolin Summit, Uzana provides excellent conditions for tourism throughout the whole year. The resort is the geographical centre of Bulgaria. Shipka Peak is around two and a half hours from Uzana.
The total run of the ski runs in Uzana is 3 km. There are 8 small tracks and one 1300 m long track. What makes the resort more attractive is that it is situated in the heart of the Natural Park Bulgarka. Future projects concerning the resort involve the construction of a ski track passing right through the natural park. Uzana is one of the most beautiful places to see in Bulgaria, it is paradise on earth nestled among venerable oak forests. There are around 15 hotels and chalets in Uzana and the surrounding area.
Except for skiing, Uzana also offers snowboarding, ski orienteering, kite-boarding, motor sledges, rock-climbing. There are great conditions for cultural tourism. The ethnographical complex Etur - a unique open-air museum, is very close to the resort. Etura museum is an artificially created village on the small river Sivetz. The Bulgarian Renaissance atmosphere is reserved there in the old workshops of traditional Bulgarian arts and crafts. The visitors can watch the craftsmen doing everything by their own hands and by water-driven machinery. 600-year-old village Bozhentsi - an architectural and historical reserve, is also near by. The “Sokolovski” monastery is situated just several kilometers north from the Uzana site.
