Magdalena Maleeva is one of the most successful Bulgarian female tennis players of all times. She was born on April 1, 1975 in Sofia, Bulgaria. In her professional career she has played 729 matches and won 439 of them. Magdalena Maleeva has entered Grand Slam tournaments 54 times and has 78 wins and 54 losses. She has accumulated 4.4 million USD from rewards in the tournaments she has played in. Maleeva has also participated in three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004. She has 10 title from WTF in singles and 5 in doubles. Her highest ranking is number 4 on January 29, 1996.
Magdalena Maleeva enters the professional tennis at the age of fourteen in 1989. Being a part of a big tennis family, with her successes, she soon escapes from the shadow of her bigger sisters, also proven names in the professional tennis. She is the youngest of the three sisters, also known as the Maleevi sisters. The Maleevi era in tennis begins in 1079, when the biggest of the sisters, Manuela wins the Orange Bowl tournament in USA in the 12 years old bracket. For 26 years in a row, one of the three sisters has been among the best female tennis players in the world. When we compare their achievements, Magdalena has the least number of titles, only ten. He older sister Katerina has 11, and Manuela has 19. Magi is the only one of the three sisters never to play a final in a Grand Slam tournament.In 1990 she is declared the most prospective young tennis player by WTF and in 1993 she grabs the award for major progress. The same year she plays against Monica Seles during the incident that shocked the tennis world - the stabbing of Monica Seles on the court. After receiving these two rewards she goes to number 4 in 1996 and stays in top ten for 60 weeks. From her major trophies are the ones from Moscow in 1994, 1995 and 2002.
