Pantcho Vladigerov State Academy of Music is the unique higher school for professional musicians in Bulgaria. It includes a full list of theoretical and performance music subjects. The State Academy of Music was founded in 1921 with King’s Decree No 145, published in the State gazette from 21.07.1921. The name - State Academy of music “Pancho Vladigerov”- was legalized by a Government Decree No 52 in Republic of Bulgaria from 02.03.1995. In May 2006 the Academy was renamed by Government Decree to NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC “PANCHO VLADIGEROV”.
Today, NMA”P.Vladigerov” offers 30 subjects, organized in three faculties:
-Theory, Composition and Conducting faculty
-Instrumental faculty
-Vocal faculty, including the subjects “Ballet art” and “Pop & Jazz Art”
The brightest talents in the contemporary Bulgarian musical school, whose creative work is a part from the world art’s achievements, are professors in the academy. Their work is a testimonial for the high level of the Bulgarian education in music, combined the most brilliant patterns from the European and world musical culture and the rich Bulgarian musical traditions. Academy Symphony Orchestra, Student Academy Orchestra, Academic mixed choir, Educational Opera Theatre, Library of records and tapes are one of the most important assets of the National Music Academy.
The NMA has established bilateral contracts with many Universities and Musical Academies in Europe and the world. Together with them, the Academy runs international educational and research projects. Its contribution to the development of the national culture and Bulgaria’s international reputation of musical art is over and over again proved through the high rating and acknowledge of the Bulgarian musician’s successes.
